To the People of West Missouri,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Canon Chas Marks as our new Canon for Common Mission. Canon Chas, who’s appointment begins on January 1, has served as Missioner for Transitions since January 2022. During his tenure, he has faithfully led many of our congregations through interim periods and the calling of new clergy to the diocese. He has also served in leadership of the Province V-VI-VII Transition ministers since 2022 and is a member of the Provincial Council of Province VII. His quiet, calm leadership is a blessing to our communities and The Episcopal Church.
As Canon for Common Mission, Canon Chas will work directly with my leadership to serve our communities and their leaders. In addition to supporting clergy and communities in transition, he will lead our congregational development and vitality work, have oversight of Diocesan Convention, and support various diocesan committees.
I ask your prayers for the people of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church where Canon Chas has served as priest-in-charge and then rector since June of 2016. This change impacts them directly; and we know they will miss him. We have already started working with an outside resource who will assist in guiding them during this transition.
The addition of Canon Chas to our diocesan staff enhances our diocesan ability to support you and your communities. Please know you can contact us for support at any time. We are here to serve with you.
Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. Amy Dafler Meaux
Ninth Bishop of The Diocese of West Missouri
