I will break off a tender shoot from the topmost of its young twigs; I myself will transplant it on a high and lofty mountain. On the mountain height of Israel I will transplant it, and it will produce boughs and bear fruit and become a noble cedar. Under it every kind of bird will live; in the shade of its branches will nest winged creatures of every kind."
Ezekiel’s promise offers us perspective as we approach strategic planning for The Diocese of West Missouri. Our task is not to convince people of a particular direction or work toward a predetermined outcome. Instead, we are invited to discern where God may be leading us.
That begins with noticing the good work already happening in our midst. Both discernment and planning require patience, curiosity, and trust. We may not always know exactly where the path will lead, but we can move forward with confidence that God is at work among us. For it is God who plants and gives us roots, and God who nurtures us for growth.
As we plan together, our hope is to nurture the Church that God is building to be fruitful, resilient, and spacious enough to shelter every kind of bird.
Over the next few months, every member of the diocese will have a chance to offer feedback and share ideas for the future of our diocese. This process will include a survey, multiple listening sessions, and much discernment to determine what is the best path forward. We invite you to take part — not just to offer your insight, but to join us in shaping the next chapter in our life together.
