The World Cup kicks off on June 16 in Kansas City. As we have the unique opportunity to welcome visitors from across the globe, there are some things to keep in mind in terms of safety and the ways your church can participate!
Local Safety Measures and Resources
It’ll be no surprise that the Kansas City-Metro area will be more chaotic than normal. In response to the large influx of visitors, here are some reminders of attentiveness.
Be Welcoming
Expect new faces and visitors to be seeking worship, prayer, and a place to rest. Make sure your church staff are aware of the upcoming games and are prepared to greet people, answer phones, and respond to emails more regularly.
Plan Ahead
Allow extra time for travel, as the city expects increased traffic, limited parking, and larger crowds throughout the city.
Keep Facilities Secure and Monitored
Ensure non-public areas remain locked and access to sensitive areas is secure or monitored. If something seems unusual or of concern, notify church leadership or local authorities.
Emergency Preparedness
Review emergency procedures, with staff, clergy, Vestry members, ushers, and volunteers so everyone knows how to respond and what to do, if needed. Please notify the diocesan office if a problem or an emergency takes place at your church. We will assist you in any way we can and notify any surrounding churches if necessary.
In case of a mass casualty event, please get to safety as soon as possible and contact your church leadership and the diocesan office to let us know you are safe. The diocese will coordinate safe zones, share information and provide next steps as soon as we can. For more information on safety procedures, please contact our office.

If you have a Canva account, please email the Communications Director with an email to the account you use, and they will be happy to share with you a copy of these templates. Feel free to edit them as you’d like.
If you do not have an account, we recommend getting one to make customization easier. It is also a great tool for designing ads, social posts, and other marketing materials you may need in the future. A PRO version of Canva is available for free for nonprofits. If you are interested, you can learn more and start the application process here.
If you do not have a Canva account and do not wish to get one at this time, then please review the templates and get back to us with what specific templates you’d like to use. You will also need to provide the information you’d like to update on the templates, such as specific size requirements (like for the banner), and any other small changes you’d like to make.
All that said, your church does NOT have to use any of the provided templates. You are free to create your own ad(s) for publication; however, we ask that you submit all ads to the diocese for approval before publication to ensure compliance with FIFA guidelines.
