To the People of West Missouri,
I am thrilled to invite you to the 136th Diocesan Convention of West Missouri! This annual gathering is a time for us to come together for stewardship, governance, and visioning for our diocese. God has brought us to this moment, and I eagerly await to see all that is to come!
Our theme this year, “Built by the Spirit,” is inspired by our experience of God’s leadership. From the beginning of our diocese, the Spirit has guided us in building and supporting our communities. Most recently, we have seen the Spirit move through the leadership of Bishop Bruce, in my own election, and in the healing and renewal taking root across our congregations. The seeds planted over the last three years have now borne fruit—and now is the time to harvest a hope for the future. As we continue to imagine, discern, and plan, we depend on this same Spirit to strengthen and guide us. Through the Spirit, we will be encouraged, empowered, and prepared for what’s to come.
During his last meal with his disciples, Jesus says:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.” (John 14: 15-17)
The disciples wonder about the future—how will they follow Jesus when He is no longer with them? Yet Jesus assures them they would not be alone. He is with them by the mystery of the resurrection and the power of the Holy Spirit, God’s advocate, to lead them. This is the promise he gives them—as they seek Him, the Spirit will lead them to Him.
The Diocese of West Missouri was built to bear witness to the glory of God revealed in Jesus Christ. Our first calling is to follow Him; to love God and our neighbor as he commands, but this work cannot be done through our own strength. It is the Spirit—God’s presence in our midst—that we depend on to do His work.
I look forward to seeing you at convention! I am praying for you as you discern your own ministry. Perhaps God is calling you to serve on one of our governing boards, commissions, or committees. Please continue to pray for the diocese as we prepare for convention and let us open our minds and hearts to be built up by the Spirit.
Peace be with you,

+Amy Dafler Meaux
