The Episcopal Diocese of Missouri is hosting a Title IV training on April 28 and 29, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of St. Michael & St. George in St. Louis, Missouri.
“Title IV” refers to the section of The Episcopal Church’s Canons (laws) that addresses the grounds and processes for “ecclesiastical discipline,” a canonical process adopted by the Church to encourage accountability, reconciliation, and pastoral response when a member of its clergy (deacons, priests, or bishops) are accused of misconduct.
This training is for clergy and laypeople interested in learning about ecclesiastical discipline, and highly recommended for the following people:
- seminarians
- disciplinary board members
- chancellors
- intake officers
The Rev. Dr. Cathy Deats will facilitate the training. She has more than 25 years’ experience, both as a layperson and clergyperson, in consultation with bishops and dioceses in Title IV complaint matters. Collaborating with church attorneys, she has developed a training module for the Disciplinary Canon, Title IV, as well as an Orientation for Intake Officers.
This training event is free.
