As part of our dialogue to dismantle racism, the Diversity and Reconciliation Commission will begin a 6-part series built around the podcast “Seeing White”. “Seeing White,” is a thought-provoking podcast series from Scene on Radio that delves deeply into the complexities and nuances of race and whiteness in America.
“Seeing White” flips the script on typical conversations about race by focusing on whiteness as a racial construct. Rather than centering the experiences of people of color, this series asks probing questions about what it means to be white. How did the concept of whiteness originate, how did it evolve and most importantly, how does it continue to shape social structures and individual lives?
This series challenges listeners to think critically about the ways in which whiteness operates as an invisible norm, often unexamined and unquestioned. It calls for an honest reckoning with the privileges and responsibilities that come with being white in a racially stratified society.
By shedding light on the roots and realities of whiteness, “Seeing White” provides a critical framework for understanding and addressing racial injustice.
