The Diocese of West Missouri is thrilled to announce that St. John’s Episcopal Church in Springfield has called the Rev. Benjamin W. George-Thoms as their rector! The Rev. Ben will be joining St. John’s Episcopal Church the beginning of October.
The Rev. Ben is a native of Louisiana and currently serves at St. Barnabas’ Episcopal Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he has been since May 2023 following his graduation from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and his ordination to the priesthood. Prior to seminary, he earned a B.A. in Modern Languages with a concentration in Spanish from the University of Luisiana at Monroe in 2017. He and his husband, Jacob have been married since 2023 and are excited to continue sharing their life with each other and all of its blessings in this next chapter with the people of St. John’s and The Diocese of West Missouri.
“Congratulations to the search committee and vestry of St. John’s for their faithful discernment. I’m thrilled to welcome Father Thoms and his husband, Jacob, to the diocese,” says Bishop Amy. “I’ve had the great privilege of working with him while he was in seminary. I think he will make a great rector for St. John’s and be a great addition to our clergy team in West Missouri.”
Congratulations to St. John’s on their new ministry! We’re excited to see your continued growth during this new chapter.

Everliving God, strengthen and sustain Benjamin George-Thoms that with patience and understanding they may love and care for your people; and grant that together they may follow Jesus Christ, offering to you their gifts and talents; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for every and ever. Amen.
