Earlier this summer, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Monett got to wrap up another energetic and joy-filled week of Vacation Bible School (VBS), a tradition that has brought the surrounding community together every July for more than four decades. This year’s program was hosted by First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, directed by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and supported by Connection Point Church and Ozark Christian Church.
Using MAGNIFY by LifeWay as the curriculum, the week welcomed 35 children and 44 adult volunteers each morning from 9 a.m. to noon. Each day began with a lively worship rally featuring music, videos, and the introduction of the day’s Bible lesson. Children then rotated through activities including Bible stories, snacks, outdoor games, crafts, and even hands-on science experiments—all designed to bring the stories of Jesus to life.
Throughout the week, students explored key moments in Jesus’ ministry: His birth, calming the storm, meeting the woman at the well, His conversation with Nicodemus, and His resurrection and ascension—illustrated with Twizzlers and Starburst.
The science rotation added a special mission-focused project: Water for Tanzania. The goal was to raise $500, but Monett area’s generosity went above and beyond. A check for $1,964.71 was sent to Concordia Supply, which will double the amount, allowing funds to support the digging of three clean water wells in Tanzania by the Mighty Men ministry.
From heartfelt worship to games and science experiments, the week was a wonderful reminder of community, collaboration, and faith in action.
