On Saturday, February 17, the ‘Moms Demand Action’ group of Kansas City held a rally at Washington Square Park, just walking distance within the tragedy that followed the Kansas City Parade last Wednesday.
During the rally, many members of the group spoke out about gun violence in Kansas City. Among those members was Tara Bennett, the Chair of the Peace and Justice Committee for The Diocese of West Missouri.
“Why is it that we have to experience the type of gun violence that we do?” says Tara. “We don’t. I’m here to say it’s enough!”
Aside from members of the ‘Moms Demand Action’ group, elected leaders, including Mayor Quinton Lucas, attended the event.
“I don’t want us 20 years from now to be saying, ‘We don’t have parades anymore because of x or y thing.’ I don’t want us to be looking over our shoulders,” said Mayor Lucas.
Other elected leaders and members spoke out against gun violence, asking for action and change.
